Employee of the Quarter

Dr. Guy David Leveaux, Emergency Department Physician and Hospitalist, was selected as Employee of the Quarter for the 4th quarter of 2011. Kind, compassionate, soft-hearted, intelligent, friendly, modest and generous - these are only a few of the descriptive words chosen by nominators hoping to honor Dr. Leveaux. Lisa ‘Shelley’ Cottrill, Family Nurse Practitioner in the Community Health Center wrote, “Dr. Leveaux is a wonderful human being and Braxton County Memorial is very blessed to have such an intelligent physician working in a small rural facility in central WV.” His dedication is exemplified by the long hours he works as well as his ongoing commitment to providing the most current medical treatments to our patients. Shelley continues, “He is an endless resource to me and other mid-levels anytime we need him.”

As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, Wendy Beall has worked closely with Dr. Leveaux for several years. She comments, “He is such a nice person and so intelligent. I only wish I could be just a tiny bit like him. Dr. Leveaux really cares about this hospital and its employees.” He recently completed a research project involving rural hospitals and emergency room physicians in WV, which was published in the prestigious Annals of Emergency Medicine. Wendy states, “He really wants to spark an interest in rural healthcare by making others aware of what a critical role rural hospitals play within these underserved, small communities. If only more people could have the compassion and enthusiasm Dr. Leveaux shows everyday; our hospital, community and world would be a much better place.”

Since September 1998, Dr. Leveaux has been caring for our patients in the Emergency Department. For over a year, he has been providing care as a Hospitalist at BCMH as well. He and his wife of 24 years, Cheryl Lynn, have four children:  Lauren - age 22, Lindsay - age 19, Logan - age 15 and Kelley - age 14. The Leveaux family enjoys spending time at their farm on the ocean in Costa Rica where they plant chocolate and welcome guests. Dr. Leveaux’s dedication to our patients and staff in addition to his personal accomplishments also reflect well on the facility he cares so much about. Even though he supports our hospital financially by regularly contributing to the BCMH Foundation, it is his outstanding character that is most appreciated!
